Halifax's Christmas and Holiday Parades 2017

HRM Santa parades.png

A local Christmas/Holiday parade always feels like the catalyst that kicks off the season and we have several in the Halifax region to enjoy. I've gathered up all the information I could find on the ones in the HRM this year., but if I've missed one, please leave the information in the comments below so that others can check it out!

Chronicle Herald Holiday Parade of Lights November 18 at 6pm

This is the biggest in the region and is held downtown. It is two hours in length so bring lots of warm clothes and blankets to stay cozy during it. The Red Nose Run is immediately before it at 6pm, and the parade starts as soon as the last runner crosses the finish line. Cash and food donations are collected for Feed Nova Scotia along the route. Route information from the site: "The Parade begins on Upper Water Street, south of the CFB Halifax Dockyard, and continues onto Barrington Street via the Cogswell Interchange. The Parade continues down Barrington Street and turns right onto Spring Garden Road, continuing along Spring Garden Road and turning left onto South Park Street. The Parade then turns right from South Park Street onto University Avenue, past the IWK Children's Hospital, and ends at the corner of University Avenue and Robie Street."

Light Up Bedford Parade Sunday, November 19 at 5:45

This parade goes along the Bedford Highway from DeWolf Park to the Bedford Place Mall. Along the route they collect food and monetary donations for Beacon House and toys for the Q104 Toy Drive. Select businesses along the route host "hot spots" with treats like cookies, hot chocolate and popcorn - check out their page for where to find the hot spots!

Beaver Bank Kinsac Parade of Lights November 19 at 6pm

This is a great community event. The parade goes along the Beaver Bank Road, starting at Barrett's Lumber Yard and ending at the Beaver Bank Kinsac Community Centre with hot chocolate and cookies at the centre after the parade.

Fall River Lions Christmas Express Parade November 26 at 1 pm

My current hometown of Fall River hosts this parade (I'll be walking in it this year with my daughter, woot!). NOTE: The route had changed due to construction but it's returned back to the original route now, starting at the LWF Hall at 843 Fall River Road and ending at the Sobey's/Shopper's Plaza in Fall River.

Spryfield Santa Claus Parade November 26 at 2pm

This parade is the one I grew up going to so it always gives me warm fuzzies! They'll be collecting food and monetary donations along the parade route. More information can be found about the parade and route in the link above. I can't find a confirmed route for this year but in previous years the parade goes along Herring Cove Road from Highfield (Ultramar) to Dentith (at the No Frills parking lot).

Musquodoboit Harbour Parade of Lights December 2 at 6 pm

This parade is in its fifth year and includes lots of community activities before and after the parade. Food, cash, and toys will be collected for the local food bank. The route starts at the high school, turns right onto West Petpeswick, right again onto the #7 Highway, moves through the centre of the village, and turns left onto Park Road and into the rink parking lot where it ends.

Which parade is your family's favourite? Did I miss one? Please leave it in the comments below and I'll add it to the list!
