Discovery Centre Grand Opening

It's finally ready to welcome all of our little (and big) haligonians! The brand new and improved Discovery Centre is opening its doors Sunday for visitors to come check out the exciting new space (members can get in a day early on Saturday).

Cecilia Concerts: The Music of Peter Allan

This organization offers free tickets to kids in order to make music more accessible to children and families. Check out the link above for more information on how to get free tickets to this weekend's show (first come, first served for limited free ticket availability). It sounds like a great performance and introduction to live music for kids.

MONDAY

Child Play and Splash at the Sackville Sports Stadium

The program runs from 9-11:45 for newborn to five years old. The first hour is playtime for the kids and coffee and conversation for the parents. The second 45 minutes you get to play in the pool with your little ones. And it's all free!

Breastfeeding Support Groups

There are free breastfeeding support groups every Monday from 9:30-10:30 at the Dartmouth Fiddleheads location and from 11:00-12:00 at Nurtured Products for Parenting. This is a great place for support, advice and to meet other moms and babes at the same stage of life as you. Contact the stores mentioned for more details on the groups!

TUESDAY

Wee Wild Ones! at the Museum of Natural History

This program is for children 5 and under and is held from 10-11 each Tuesday. There is a different program each week and activities such as stories, puppet shows, block building and more are used to explore the theme. This week's theme is animal tracks!

WEDNESDAY

Itsy Bitsy Nimbus Book Club

We're reading Abigail's Gift this month in our virtual little kids book club. It is the first picture book set in historic Birchtown, Nova Scotia and a great introduction to the rich history of African Nova Scotians for little kids. Pick up your copy at local booksellers or online at Amazon (affiliate link in image) so you can be ready when we release our virtual book club guide. Gather some friends and read along together!

Welcome Wednesdays at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

This two hour weekly program runs each Wednesday through the winter and spring and is for ages 0-5 every week from 10 am to 12 noon. There are age-appropriate self and staff guided activities through the museum, along with activity and colouring sheets, the puppet theatre will be set out to play with along with crafts for all children.

THURSDAY

Music Makers Drop-In

Andrea's Music Studio has a drop-in programs for children up to five years old: "Experience songs, musical styles, creative movement, rhythm instruments, musical playtime, and more, while making new friends. Older and younger siblings may attend the same class. This is an interactive musical playtime for babies, toddlers, pre schoolers, and their parent or caregiver."  Thursday classes are 10:15-10:45 and 11:00-11:30 in Dartmouth. Fees and location can be found on their website.

FRIDAY

Sackville Snow Days

This jam packed week celebrating all that is winter kicks off Friday with a costume party and giant game of kerplunk. Ongoing events include a snowman contest, a colouring contest and much, much more. Check out the link above for full details!

Gus Walk at the NS Museum of Natural History

Join Halifax's favourite tortoise as he gets out of his house and goes for a stroll around the museum and eats a snack. Regular admission rates apply. 

Family Drop-In With NS Health Authority

"Visit us in your community for breastfeeding assessment and assistance, parenting support and other health information. At some drop-ins a Public Health Nurse facilitates group education sessions on a variety of topics including parenting, growth and development, nutrition, safety and crying. As well, some drop-ins offer Breastfeeding Buddies a peer support program facilitated by a Public Health Nurse."

This free program runs on various days of the week throughout the city and is for all parents with young children looking for support, information or just to meet other parents. Their schedule can be found on their website.

Halifax Public Library Programs

The library has daily free programs for children ages 0-5 across the city. Check out their website and enter your location and age you're looking for to find what's happening in your area. *Some programs require registration.

Halifax Recreation Programs

Halifax Recreation offers drop-in playgroups and programming across the city. Check out their catalogue to see what's in your area. Most are very affordable (for example $3/family for some groups). You can also search their Reconnect system to narrow down the age and area.
